State of New Jersey Office of Geographic Information Systems Benefits from LizardTech™ Geospatial Tools by Rapidly Distributing Data

Express Server™ Software Provides an Easier, Faster Way of Orthophoto Delivery

SEATTLE, Wash. – September 29, 2009 - LizardTech, a division of Celartem Inc. and a provider of software solutions for managing and distributing geospatial data, announced that the State of New Jersey Office of Geographic Information Systems (OGIS) has purchased Express Server, one of the LizardTech Express Suite™ line of products, in order to provide an easier and faster way of streaming orthophotos throughout the state of New Jersey.

Every five years, OGIS flies over the entire state of New Jersey to update the several sets of orthophotos archived over the past decade and a half. This resulted in a substantial archive of over 900 gigabytes of losslessly compressed JP2 files, which were created with LizardTech GeoExpress™, another Express Suite product, and are stored on a SAN. OGIS needed an extensible solution which would provide easy access to this imagery as well as all future datasets for state residents, the GIS community, and the online public. The solution needed to enable WMS access to imagery from file-based storage for easy image management.

“Our project was to provide an easier way of streaming the State of New Jersey orthophotography for our users,” said John Macready, geographic information systems specialist for OGIS. “We evaluated a small group of vendors using development time, level of functionality, performance, software reliability and platform support as criteria and concluded that LizardTech’s Express Server was the best solution for us, meeting all of the criteria we required.”

“Express Server is designed to serve more users in less time using widely adapted standards and familiar tools without adding hardware or buying more bandwidth,” said Jon Skiffington, LizardTech director of marketing. “That’s why Express Server was the perfect solution to the very challenging problem that OGIS was facing. It allowed their users to instantly access aerial photography for online use or in their software packages for viewing and downloading.”

Developers can add support for MG4 files created with LizardTech LiDAR Compressor

SEATTLE, Wash. – July 23, 2009 - LizardTech, a division of Celartem, Inc. and a leading provider of software solutions for managing and distributing digital content, announced the release of the MrSID Generation 4 Decode SDK (MG4 DSDK) to compliment the release of LizardTech LiDAR Compressor. This SDK leverages the new and improved version of the MrSID format that enables users to view and access their LiDAR data much faster than traditional uncompressed formats would have allowed.

Trusted as a raster format by geospatial professionals since 1992 and supported in virtually all GIS applications, MrSID is the highest quality file format with the most advanced compression technology available. A free download of the MrSID Generation 4 Decode SDK is available athttp://developer.lizardtech.com, and enables application developers to add support for viewing and decoding LiDAR datasets compressed to MrSID.

“This new SDK gives third-party developers the ability to add support for our updated MrSID file format to their GIS applications,” said Jon Skiffington, director of marketing at LizardTech. “It is still the MrSID format users have known for years, but we’ve listened to our customers’ requests and have added support for compressing LiDAR data. We’re excited to offer this SDK to our partners, and are looking forward to the release of their products that support MG4.”

Introduced last week, LizardTech LiDAR Compressor enables users to turn giant point cloud data into efficient MrSID files that retain 100 percent of the raw data at just 25 percent of the file size. LizardTech Unveils LiDAR Compressor at the 2009 ESRI International User Conference

Brand new LiDAR Compressor turns giant point cloud datasets into efficient MrSID files

SEATTLE, Wash. – July 13, 2009 - LizardTech, a division of Celartem, Inc. and a leading provider of software solutions for managing and distributing digital content, announced the release of its latest product called LizardTech LiDAR Compressor at the 2009 ESRI International User Conference in San Diego this week where LizardTech is exhibiting in booth number 511. This brand new product enables users to turn giant point cloud data into efficient MrSID files that retain 100 percent of the raw data at just 25 percent of the file size. Unlike raw LAS or ASCII data, LiDAR files compressed to MrSID are easily managed resources from which derivatives can be extracted over and over again. One of the key features of LiDAR Compressor is its ability to reduce LiDAR file sizes by 75 percent while retaining all of the points and all of the point precision and accuracy of the original file. If users need even smaller files, LiDAR Compressor can reduce LiDAR file sizes by 90 percent with no perceptible loss. With the release of LiDAR Compressor, LizardTech also unveils a new and improved version of the MrSID format called MrSID Generation 4 (MG4). It is still the same MrSID format users have known for years, offering the highest quality with the most advanced compression technology available, but now with MG4 MrSID files support the compression of LiDAR data, which will allow users to view and access their LiDAR data faster.

“At LizardTech we are committed to listening to our customers when they ask us for new products and features,” said Jon Skiffington, LizardTech director of marketing. “With the explosive growth of LiDAR data over the recent years, our customers have been asking for ways to compress their point cloud data to MrSID, similar to how they’ve been compressing their raster data. Our LiDAR Compressor is easy to use and requires minimal training. Plus, since it comes with an improved MrSID Generation 4 file format, it allows LiDAR data to be viewed and accessed much faster than before.”

LizardTech LiDAR Compressor is available for purchase now by contacting one of LizardTech’ssales representatives.
