LizardTales Newsletter - January 2009
In This Issue
From The Management Team As we start a new year, it's a great time to look back at the previous one to reflect upon the past. Last January we released GeoExpress 7.0, the latest version of our flagship product which added support for integrating with LizardTech Express Server, a new "despeckling" tool that eliminates unsightly compression artifacts, 64-bit support, cropping by shapefile, and much more. We've been pleased by the reaction from our customers; nearly everyone has found the upgrade to offer some great benefits that make their day-to-day job easier. Further, we released version 6.1 of our Express Server product. This upgrade was specifically targeted towards our Defense and Intelligence customers, and included support for serving NITF files and streaming JPEG 2000 via JPIP. Customers have reported they're very happy with this functionality, as well as with our improved integration with ArcGIS Server. We base our product roadmap on input from customers like you. One of the most effective ways we do this is by our yearly customer satisfaction survey. Be on the lookout for the next survey in February. We've taken your input in past years to add functionality to our products, and this year will be no different. Check back often to see what new products we'll be releasing in the coming year.
Geospatial - From the Product Manager
While LizardTech always focuses on making sure that our products are of the highest quality, occasionally bugs do make it into our released software. Luckily, we have a great Engineering team that hunts these bugs down and fixes them with extreme prejudice. Last December, we released patches for both GeoExpress and Express Server. Our Engineering team really went above and beyond the call of duty this time, however, as not only did they fix some outstanding bugs but also were able to add some new features at the same time! GeoExpress 7.0.2 fixed some issues with image quality when compressing multispectral JPEG 2000 images, but also added support for CADRG files and for some advanced metadata editing via our command line tool. Express Server 6.1.1 improved our ArcGIS integration and added support for Google Earth's projection system and compressed PNGs for images served via WMS. Case Studies and Customer Wins The State of New Jersey's 2007 orthoimagery is now available for download from the New Jersey Geographic Information Network's newly designed NJ Information Warehouse, which uses LizardTech's Express Server to serve all compressed orthoimagery layers. The imagery is available in both MrSID format (compressed 8-bit, 3-band, RGB natural color, 5000' by 5000' tiles) and JPEG 2000 format (compressed 8-bit, 4-band RGB plus infrared, 5000' by 5000' tiles). The site looks great and is easy to use, and we're pretty proud of the way Express Server performs on it. You can add the WMS layer of New Jersey's 2007 orthoimagery into any application supporting WMS by entering the following URL: http://njwebmap.state.nj.us/njorthos Here is a partial list of recently added clients to our ever expanding customer base: United States

Tip:
You can edit the metadata of your MrSID files, including the projection information, coordinates, dynamic range and more without re-encoding the image. To do this, follow these steps:
