Urgent help needed,
We have what we understand to be a GeoExpress 7.0 floating license. One of our users located in another city has locked-up the license, turned their computer off, and is not around. From what we've been told, we cannot un-lock the license remotely - that user must power on the computer and un-lock it. Is that correct? Or is there something else that can be done? This appears to be the "commuter" aspect of the license - is that the same as a floating license, or an option in addition to a floating license?. We just want our license to be floating and to be unlocked automatically when someone's computer is turned off. Is there any way to disable the commuter option and/or configure the license to act as described above to prevent this from happening again?
So, what exactly is the difference between commuter and floating licenses?
Thanks for your help.

Hello,
You are correct, the user that has checked out the license will need to check it back in. There currently is not a way to disable the commuter feature.
The Commuter License feature allows a client machine to check out a license code and leave the network and still have full access to GeoExpress7.
The Floating License will not work away from the network.

So, I still don't understand the difference between commuter and floating. When someone uses GeoExpress 7.0, is there a way to control whether they just use a floating license versus checking out the commuter license? Or does using a floating license automatically check out a commuter license? Are they one-and-the-same?
How can we prevent one of our remote users from locking up our 1 floating license again if they turn their computer off?
Thanks

GeoExpress6 had Floating License Codes. Floating licenses could not leave the network, and if you lost your network conection you lost your ablitly to run GeoExpress6.
With GeoExpress7 we changed the network license to the Commuter codes. This will allow a user to leave the network with the license and GeoExpress7 will still run.
Your remote users will need to check in the license code when they are done using GeoExpress7. This is usually done automatically when GeoExpress is closed down. Since it has not, the shows that your client has done one of two things. First, they have checked out the license code manually, Second they did not shut down GeoExpress or their computer correctly.
There is not a way to block Communter license check out.

OK, thanks for the prompt replies and clarification.
In our organization's case, we have little need for a commuter license, a floating license over the network (as with 6.0) was good enough.
It would be very helpful in future GeoExpress releases to add an option to checkout a commuter license only if desired, and otherwise just use it as a floating license.
