Hi there.
I am new to geoexpress and I am currently trying it to create mosaics usinf pre-compiled AUX file. Everything seems to be fine but I have 1 question please, which I haven't yet found an answer around the Internet.
My question is - how to make a resulted SID image using separated ZOOM-LEVEL tiles? Say, I ALREADY have 1 tile for zoom0, 4 tiles for zoom1, 16 tiles for zoom2 and 256 tiles for zoom3. It is like a pyramid, yes.
Each zoom level tiles are NOT identical (not just scaled down from the zoom+1 level - but has some different image annotations and labels, whose are not scaled and exist within their only zoom), and that is the reason that I MUST embed them ALL into the SID image zoom by zoom, not just an maximum zoom level and let the program autoscale that for me.
Of course while viewing such of resulted SID image - scrolling the ZOOM slider up/down I must see the actual image from the tiles of that only zoom. That is the point. :)
How to complete such of task please?
Thanks,
Alex

If I understand correctly, you have tiles for each zoom/pyramid level and wish to combine those tiles into one image/pyramid.
At this time there is no such feature in GeoExpress and I am not aware of this feature in other products either.
It is an interesting feature and I will include it in our feature request system.

Yes, you got the point.

Currently it is implemented in Zoomify™ Enterprise .PFF format (Pyramidal File Format), and also in some others - not widely known I can say. You can visit them at w_w_w.zoomify.com
Yes, I just wish to convert that from PFF to SID within one of my projects.

When should we expect such of feature? Any guidelines? :)

Hello,
By design, this type of feature is not going to be possible in GeoExpress. GeoExpress is designed to create MrSID files which are natively like pyramided files. You start with a high resolution image and encode that to MrSID, which automatically includes many different resolution levels.
In your case, if you can bring in the source image to GeoExpress (rather than the pff file), you may find an agreeable solution.

Hmm.....Robert, I dont see any conflicts with GE design here. Instead of creating the resolutions automatically (as you said) you might "tell" the encoder not to automatically re-scale the original pic and encode that as a next level, but take the user's specified picture/mosaic as a next level while encoding the sid. That's all.
Everything we vows in case of mosaics - a such of option (in AUX file maybe, indicating which level each tile belongs to....something like:
d:\123\0-0-0.jpg 0 0 0
d:\123\1-0-0.jpg 1 0 0
d:\123\1-1-0.jpg 1 256 0
d:\123\1-0-1.jpg 1 0 256
d:\123\1-1-1.jpg 1 256 256
d:\123\2-0-0.jpg 2 0 0
...etc
(path/zoom/X/Y)

Wrong. The GE encoder will AUTOcreate the upper levels whenever I have the original images (for each level) or not. Instead of ONE viewable multiresolution PFF file - I got to have 16 separated SID files in my case, one .sid per one resolution (where EACH of .sids still contain autocreated pyramid of zooms!). The question is just to optional tune or even overlap those autocreated zooms.
In other words, it would be nice to found such of feature in the future versions of GE. Please. :)
