Am evaluating a dvd library of mrsid aerial photo images, georeferenced Virginia State Plane, North. All attempts to access fail to properly place images in correct geographic position.
Metadata indicates the files were created from georeferenced tifs with ArcGis 9.2. Each sid image has a set of four files: .sid; .sid.aux.xml; .aux; .sdw.
Geoviewer does not detect that image is georeferenced. Setting to read world file immediately crashes the viewer. Browser plug-in also does not detect georeferecing.
I don't have access to ArcGis software.
Tested importing into Manifold GIS. In various tests, images were positioned on west coast of Mexico (-109.7, 15.0), or in north Africa/Middle East at about lon/lat 32.7/30.5, rather than eastern Virginia (-77.3, 38.8).
Used open source tool GDAL to test converting images to ECW. In processing, gdal-translate reported: "Warning 6: Rotational coefficients ignored, georeferencing of output ECW file will be incorrect."
Search of LizardTech site and forums found no similar problem or hint of solution. Search of web indicates problem possibly is error in file header information or mismatch between metadata and world file.
Is there a way to identify the problem and develop a workaround to use this library of mrsid images without ArcGis and without having to manually georegister each image?
Thanks for any help.
