Command Line Encoding with mrsidencoderU

Postby allendkjmu » Thu Sep 02, 2010 11:45 am

I am compressing about 200 GeoTIFFs into a 1+ GB MrSID Gen 2 file using the command line executable. Around 95% complete, I notice a sharp decrease in mrsidencoderU.exe's Mem Usage in the Windows Task Manager. The encoding process also slows to a crawl. For example, the entire encoding process may take 3 hours but it takes the last half hour to move from 97% to 100%. Is this normal? Are their any settings I could change to optimize performance?

Hello,

This could be a transfer of information stored in RAM to the hard drive. This would occur if the process is running out of RAM.

To encode your 20 GB or so of TIFF files to a 1 GB MrSID fairly quickly, you would want a 64-bit OS with the 64-bit version of GeoExpress, and plenty of RAM (4-16 GB or so).
