Hello everyone,
I'm new at creating and working with MrSID files, so I wanted to ask if there were any special considerations for improving processing speed when mosaicking based on any experience you may have had.
Our client wants TIFF orthophotos mosaicked into .sid files, one for each powerline surveyed. The thing is these lines are quite big, with hundreds of images at about 66 MB per image. My question is: does it make a difference (in processing time, data cartridge use, or any other consideration) whether I create really large mosaicking jobs (with tons of input data each), or I break down the lines into smaller mosaics, and thus run many more jobs but with fewer input tiles per job? Or is it all cumulative and so makes no difference in the end?
Thank you for your help.

Processing time can be optimized in a few ways. Here are some ideas:
Use the 64-bit version of GeoExpress on 64-bit Windows with as much RAM as you can get. This tends to provide a 30% decrease in processing time.
When encoding to MG3 or MG4, increase the strip height parameter so that more RAM is used. I recommended this mainly for 64-bit systems where more RAM is available to the software, but it will provide a boost if you increase the value in smaller increments on a 32-bit OS.
Don't break the job up into smaller jobs. It's better to do the entire mosaic at once and from the source images.
