Trying to check out some of the new 3D lidar images. Installed the viewer and used dxdiag to check my directx driver and that 3d was enabled.
Everything looks ok there.
When I try to bring up the viewer I get a warning from DirectX of an exception unable to load DLL LidarRenderer.dll and the 3D tab on the viewer is disabled.
Any ideas?
LidarRenderer.dll missing ?

Problem:
After installing GeoViewer4 or updating GeoViewer3 to version 4 the client receives the following error box.
"The following exception was thrown while initializing DirectX; a frequent cause is unsupported hardware, drivers, or OS configuration.
The 3D view will now be disabled.
Exception message: Unable to load DLL 'LidarRenderer.dll': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E)"
Solution:
Installing or reinstalling DirectX 9.0.c will fix this error message and enable 3D viewing.

follow up question - file formats
Thanks David.
I did reinstall and it worked. So I guess the lesson here is that even tho dxdiag shows you have the 9.0c driver and the 3d works on the tests there that something must still be out of sync! My workstation is an old and fickle beast so I was leary of breaking something with the DirectX update.
Additional question...the downloadable sample data comes in 3 files
.sid .las and .xyz is there a way to view the three together so that you get something more resembling an aerial image?
The lidar las file looked ok...I was expecting images looking something like PICTOMETRY images I think. How are these images typically used?

There are now two different kinds of MrSID files, although they both have the same file extension (*.sid): MrSID LiDAR data and MrSID raster image.
The *.sid files you create with LiDAR Compressor are point cloud LiDAR data files. They are not in any way a raster image file. The MrSID LiDAR files can only be created by compressing an ASCII or LAS LiDAR file in LizardTech LiDAR Compressor.
These files are meant to be viewed in a 3D viewer such as LizardTech's GeoViewer.
You can, however, use GeoViewer to extract a 2D raster image scene from the 3D data from the Tools > Export menu. You must be on the 2D tab for this to work.
