Hi,
I work on the nowCOAST web portal, which provides near-real-time oceanographic and meteorological observation & forecast data through both an interactive web map and through publicly-accessible WMS services.
I got an e-mail from one of our customers that was having a problem connecting to our services through GeoViewer. After some investigation, I have determined that there is a problem in the way GeoViewer handles WMS URLs.
Here's the URL to one of our WMS services: h_t_t_p://nowcoast.noaa.gov/wms/com.esri.wms.Esrimap/obs?
In the WMS Browser dialog box, after entering this URL and hitting "Connect", I get the following error:
"Error
Could not query WMS Server
Status Code: ProtocolError
The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found."
After monitoring h_t_t_p traffic, I determined that the URL being requested by GeoViewer had converted the base URL to lowercase, so that "com.esri.wms.Esrimap" became "com.esri.wms.esrimap". Although I am working on a workaround on our end to handle both upper and lower case, this is clearly a problem that should be fixed in GeoViewer.
If the WMS URL I listed above is working by the time you read this, it means I have implemented the workaround on my end - but this should still be fixed in GeoViewer.
Please let me know if you need any more background information.
Thanks,
Jason Greenlaw
