LizardTech Announces Integration with EMC’s Centera Content Addressed Storage (CAS) Solutions
LizardTech’s Technology Leadership Exemplified as ExpressServer Efficiently Serves Up a Broad Array of Complex Content
SEATTLE, Wash., February 19, 2004 – LizardTech, Inc., a worldwide leader in software solutions that make it significantly easier to manage, distribute, and access digital content such as aerial photography, satellite images and color image documents, today announced it entered into EMC Corporation’s Centera Development Program and completed the integration of its ExpressServer with EMC Corporation’s Centera content addressed storage (CAS) solution. EMC Corporation’s Centera is an integrated hardware and software solution that delivers a secure and scalable storage platform optimized for the unique requirements of large quantities of fixed content. EMC’s Centera with ExpressServer, LizardTech’s content server solution, represents an innovative software-driven storage architecture specifically designed to address the specific storage requirements of fixed content such as satellite imagery, aerial photography, hospital records and historical documents.
Files generated with LizardTech’s GeoExpress and Document Express products in industry-standard formats like MrSID, the de facto standard for geospatial raster images, and DjVu, the most efficient open format for color image documents, can be stored in an EMC Centera CAS and be efficiently distributed using ExpressServer. Efficient “pixel stream” technology makes it possible for existing Web servers to provide instant viewing of high-resolution aerial photographs, satellite imagery and other digital content, on both wireless and broadband devices. The integrated solution will also support many other common file formats and provide users with a fast, efficient and cost-effective alternative for long-term storage and content distribution without sacrificing quality, resolution, or legibility.
“LizardTech is pleased to be teaming with EMC to greatly enhance LizardTech’s ability to support the increasing enterprise storage requirements of our customers,” said Carlos Domingo, LizardTech’s Chief Executive Officer. ”LizardTech’s interoperability with EMC’s Centera exemplifies our expertise in developing state-of-the-art content management solutions that make it significantly easier to distribute and access complex content over any size network.”
“Integration with LizardTech will offer EMC Centera customers straightforward integration with industry leading document formats,” said, EMC’s Roy Sanford, Vice President of Content Addressed Storage. ”Our customers will greatly benefit from the ability to manage, store and distribute all their fixed content with geospatial imaging and document color scanning solutions.”
Once relegated to tape archives, optical disks, or file cabinets, fixed content is now being driven online, fueled by regulatory requirements, digitization of industries such as healthcare and national security and the desire to leverage this content into new services and revenue streams. Just as the growth of applications such as Computer Aided Design (CAD) and the explosion of the Web drove the use of Network Attached Storage (NAS) as an enterprise storage strategy, the need to manage, protect and access fixed content is the driving force behind this new category of networked storage.
Whether electronic business documents, satellite imagery or medical records, all types of fixed content have three common attributes: long-term value to an organization, the need to remain unchanged, and increased value through fast access with assured content integrity. The EMC Centera network-based storage solution with, LizardTech’s ExpressServer is designed to deliver all three while economically scaling from multiple terabyte to petabyte-sized environments.
