PTFS ArchivalWare™ Now Supports LizardTech DjVu® Document File Format

PTFS and LizardTech Partnership Improves Document Delivery in Digital Archiving Software

Bethesda, MD, March 8, 2004 – PTFS, Inc., a leading provider of comprehensive archiving solutions that includes digital archiving software, digitization and content conversion services, and systems integration, today announced a technology partnership with LizardTech, a leader in software solutions that make it significantly easier to manage, distribute, and access digital content over the internet. This partnership will dramatically improve the delivery of digital documents for ArchivalWare users. PTFS ArchivalWare 3.0 provides distributed access and search features that now integrates with LizardTech’s Document Express with DjVu to improve document full text search and delivery for large or color documents.

The integration of these two technologies means customers now have a total archival solution that provides efficient storage, access, management, retrieval, and delivery of higher-quality content from scanned color documents or complex electronic originals. The benefits include reduced storage requirements, greater legibility and high quality image details, better OCR and therefore, improved search capability. The significantly smaller file size combined with independent page serving and the efficiency of the DjVu viewing clients improves the user experience dramatically.

“With DjVu, millions of users worldwide enjoy fast, efficient access to scanned or electronic color documents via the Web, over any type of network,” explains Carlos Domingo, LizardTech’s CEO. “Now that LizardTech’s Document Express with DjVu is integrated in PTFS’s ArchivalWare, we’re taking document delivery to the next level, enabling users to efficiently create and access large document archives with an easy-to-use web-based solution.”

“This technology partnership means PTFS can effectively archive any material, even complex multi-page color documents, enhancing access through improved delivery. The combined technologies now provides efficient collection storage with precise full-text retrieval,” said John Yokley, co-founder and CEO of PTFS.

ArchivalWare™ is a web-based, full-text search and retrieval system. ArchivalWare™ allows organizations to store, access, and manage digital archive collections within one system. Source formats include digital documents, books, news clippings, photographs, video and audio collections and other electronically published material. It includes a browse capability that allows the user to create a hierarchical structure to organize document archives and an administrative graphical user interface that enables simple system administration of management components. The software is completely architected on the Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) platform to improve performance and scalability by delivering a comprehensive Application Programming Interface (API) for technology integration partners like LizardTech.

Document Express with DjVu® (pronounced “Déjà vu”) is the premier open platform for managing, storing and exchanging color documents, whether scanned or electronic. Document Express enables you to convert statements, articles, manuals, records, catalogs, and more into highly compressed, web-optimized DjVu files, without sacrificing visual quality, text resolution, or legibility.
