LizardTech Delivers Simplified Image Management and Compression on Sun Microsystems’ Solaris x86 and SPARC Operating System
LizardTech File Compression Technology Makes it Easier for Companies to Manage, Distribute and Access Complex Content
SEATTLE, Wash., April 7, 2004 – LizardTech, Inc.today announced that it is aligning with Sun Microsystems as an iForce(SM) Content Network Partner (http://www.sun.com/contentnetwork) to simplify the complexities of managing content and knowledge assets across the enterprise. The Sun infrastructure for content management offers everything large companies need to build, deploy, and market mission-critical, end-to-end content and knowledge-management solutions. LizardTech’s software solutions, supporting both Solaris™ x86 and Solaris SPARC® Operating System, provide unique image compression technologies specifically designed to facilitate the management, distribution, and access of digital content such as aerial photography, satellite images and scanned color image documents.
LizardTech is participating in the Sun Solution Center (booth number 1959) at the AIIM 2004 Conference and Exposition where Sun will be featuring Content Infrastructure Systems including Sun StorEdge™ Information Lifecycle Management Solutions, Sun Enterprise™ servers and Sun Java™ Enterprise System software platform and joint customer references.
LizardTech’s Document Express with DjVu® includes advanced compression technology that makes it possible to scan, store, distribute and browse full color, high-resolution documents with the same efficiency as smaller black and white images.
A flagship Document Express with DjVu implementation is Cobb County, Ga., an Atlanta suburb of more than 500,000 people who use Document Express with DjVu to place both historic and current public court records online, as legal tender, thus saving substantial amounts of time and money.
Legal and public documents dating back to the Civil War have been captured and are available in DjVu format at extremely small file sizes and at stunning levels of visual clarity. Since the implementation of Document Express in December 1999, there have been more than two million hits on the Cobb County web site from professionals viewing public records remotely. Public access to legal documents via the Internet has led to a remarkable savings for the County. “Our initial cost savings estimates for our staff alone are around $60,000 per year since we do not have to serve nearly as many people in person,” says Jay C. Stephenson, Cobb County Superior Court Clerk.
GeoExpress with MrSID, enables the management, distribution and access of complex digital content such as aerial photography and satellite images. Built on innovative MrSID technology that dramatically reduces file size and preserves image quality, GeoExpress’ robust toolset makes it easier to produce customized imagery for crucial decision making.
Pixxures, Inc., one of the world’s largest providers of digital mapping services, supplies images to the telecommunications, engineering, insurance, utilities, and oil and gas industries as well as government agencies such as the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). To provide their clients with the highest quality imagery, Pixxures, Inc. employs GeoExpress with MrSID formatting which also keeps their storage and bandwidth costs down. “When you have to compress massive amounts of imagery, MrSID is the logical choice. Our clients have very demanding specifications – our imagery is valuable to their operations, and must be accurate and accessible. GeoExpress with MrSID plays a strategic part in helping us meet and exceed client expectations,” explains Brian Webster, president of Pixxures, Inc.
“Sun Microsystems works with companies with deep and broad digital content expertise,” said Manish Bhuptani, Sun Microsystems’ Director of Market Development. “LizardTech understands both text and complex color imagery along with real-world interoperability complexities needed to efficiently access imagery over the network and display on any device. LizardTech’s expertise in digital image compression is critical for our customers needing to manage and display large images quickly and efficiently.”
Scanned color documents, satellite imagery and aerial photographs, have three common attributes: massive file sizes, enormous storage requirements and the need to be distributed and accessed across the company or around the world, quickly and efficiently, over any kind of network. LizardTech’s imaging solutions are designed to deliver on all three with state of the art image compression technology that dramatically reduces files sizes while retaining true image quality. Smaller files require less storage and bandwidth while delivering instant access to information via the Internet or wireless device.
