LizardTech Teams with Kodak to Deliver Cost-Effective Scanned Color Documents
LizardTech’s DjVu® Document Compression Format Offers Customers Crystal Clear Images of Scanned Color Documents with Dramatically Smaller Files
Seattle, WA, June 29, 2004 – LizardTech, Inc., a leader in software solutions that make it significantly easier to manage, distribute and access digital content such as aerial photography, satellite imagery and scanned color documents, today announced integration of its DjVu document compression technology with KODAK Capture Software. Users of KODAK Capture Software will be able to output scanned documents to DjVu format, converting up to 500 pages within the two month trial period. At the conclusion of the trial period, customers may purchase a full license for unlimited document conversion to DjVu format. Color documents scanned into DjVu format reduce the cost and consumption of file storage and bandwidth for such things as statements, articles, manuals, invoices, records and catalogs.
DjVu (pronounced “Déjà Vu”) is the premier open platform for managing, storing and exchanging color documents, whether scanned or electronic, without sacrificing visual quality, text resolution, or legibility. Free, lightweight and speedy browser plug-ins, available for all common platforms, make DjVu-formatted documents accessible from anywhere. Full-text search and navigation through DjVu document collections are as efficient as with HTML web pages.
“DjVu brings the benefits of color scanning – including full document characteristics, vivid images, text legibility and easier scanning workflow – to a new class of customers looking for an easy-to-use, cost-effective solution that helps them realize the benefits of scanning documents in color,” said Karen Morley, LizardTech’s vice president of global marketing. “We are excited to work with Kodak, a leader in color scanning, to bring the benefits of DjVu to a much broader market.”
Departmental, regional, or international document management centers with growing color document storage and distribution demands need a cost-effective alternative to traditional TIFF and JPEG document image formats which yield massive file sizes consuming enormous storage and bandwidth resources. LizardTech’s DjVu document format leverages state-of-the-art segmentation and compression technology to provide companies with a simple, affordable way to archive and share color documents, across the hall or around the world.
“The integration of LizardTech’s DjVu technology with KODAK Capture Software enables our customers to take full advantage of the power of their KODAK Color Scanner. Our customers now have access to a complete, robust solution for efficient, cost-effective high-speed color scanning,” said Robert Bijster, Kodak’s WW Portfolio Business Manager, Capture Software. “KODAK Capture Software combines an easy-to-use production scanning application for electronic capture of documents with the true document legibility and cost advantages of LizardTech’s DjVu document format, significantly reducing the complexity and total cost of capturing, storing and exchanging color documents.” The new color output capability in Capture Software is an addition to a very rich array of output options, which already include JPEG, TIFF, image PDF and full-text searchable PDF. KODAK Capture Software also provides easy connectivity to several dozens of popular document management and content management systems.
DjVu – Enabling Cost-Effective Color Scanning
DjVu eliminates the file size barrier typically associated with scanning documents in color and delivers full-color digital documents with a file size comparable to scanned black and white documents. Combing network-friendly file sizes and perfect images of original documents with the ability to easily search text in a document or across a document collection, DjVu is the sensible, cost-effective format for scanned color documents.
“DjVu enables organizations to leverage their investment in color scanning infrastructure by eliminating time-consuming pre-sorting of color and black and white documents and rescanning to achieve the most legible document image,” said Karen Morley. “We are pleased to work with Kodak, to combine LizardTech’s DjVu document compression technology with KODAK Capture Software to provide Kodak customers with an integrated document capture package that is simple and cost-effective for virtually any size organization.
