LizardTech Teams with Captiva to Deliver Cost-Effective Scanned Color Documents

LizardTech’s DjVu Document Compression Format Offers InputAccel Customers Crystal Clear Images of Scanned Color Documents with Dramatically Smaller Files

Seattle, WA, July 19, 2004 – LizardTech, Inc., a leader in software solutions that make it significantly easier to manage, distribute and access digital content such as aerial photography, satellite imagery and scanned color documents, today announced integration of its Document Express with DjVu® document compression technology with Captiva’s InputAccel®, a leading document capture solution offered by Captiva Software Corporation, whereby users of InputAccel will be able to output scanned documents to the DjVu format. Under an innovative licensing arrangement, users will be able to convert up to 500 pages within an initial two month trial period on a no charge basis. At the conclusion of that period, customers may purchase a full license for unlimited document conversion to the DjVu format. Color documents scanned into the DjVu format reduce the cost and consumption of file storage and bandwidth normally required.

The Document Express format, DjVu (pronounced “Déjà Vu”), is the premier open platform for managing, storing and exchanging color documents, whether scanned or electronic, without sacrificing visual quality, text resolution, or legibility. Free, lightweight and speedy browser plug-ins, available for all common platforms, make DjVu-formatted documents accessible from anywhere. Full-text search and navigation through DjVu document collections are as efficient as with HTML web pages.

“Document Express with DjVu brings the benefits of color scanning — including full document characteristics, vivid images, text legibility and easier scanning workflow — to a new class of customers looking for an easy-to-use, cost-effective solution that helps them realize the benefits of scanning documents in color without the downside of large unwieldy file sizes,” said Karen Morley, LizardTech’s vice president of global marketing. “We are excited to work with Captiva, a leading provider of input management solutions, to bring the benefits of DjVu to a much broader market. We look forward to becoming a certified Captiva technology partner in the near future.”

Departmental, regional, or international document management centers with growing color document storage and distribution demands need a cost-effective alternative to traditional TIFF and JPEG document image formats which yield massive file sizes consuming enormous storage and bandwidth resources. LizardTech’s Document Express DjVu document format leverages state-of-the-art segmentation and compression technology to provide companies with a simple, affordable way to archive and share color documents, across the hall or around the world.

“The integration of LizardTech’s Document Express with DjVu with Captiva’s InputAccel enables our customers to deliver high quality scanned images in a dramatically reduced file size, empowering users to easily access these documents without high-bandwidth requirements. Our customers will have access to a complete, robust solution for efficient, cost-effective delivery of high-speed color images,” said Alan Abrina, Captiva’s InputAccel Product Manager. “InputAccel combines a complete document capture solution with the true document legibility and cost advantages of LizardTech’s DjVu format, significantly reducing the complexity and total cost of capturing, processing, exchanging and storing color documents. The new DjVu output capability bolsters InputAccel’s modular architecture, which allows users to create customized capture flows for their incoming data streams.”

Document Express with DjVu – Enabling Cost-Effective Color Scanning

Document Express with DjVu eliminates the file size barrier typically associated with scanning documents in color and delivers full-color digital documents with a file size comparable to scanned black and white documents. Combing network-friendly file sizes and perfect images of original documents with the ability to easily search text in a document or across a document collection, Document Express with DjVu is the sensible, cost-effective format for scanned color documents.

“Document Express with DjVu enables organizations to leverage their investment in color scanning infrastructure by eliminating time-consuming pre-sorting of color and black and white documents and rescanning to achieve the most legible document image,” said Karen Morley. “We are pleased to work with Captiva, to combine LizardTech’s Document Express with DjVu document compression technology with InputAccel to provide Captiva customers with an integrated document capture package that is simple and cost-effective for virtually any size organization.”
