LizardTech Launches GeoExpress 5.0 with MrSID

New Version Takes MrSID Beyond Image Compression

Seattle, WA – January 10, 2005 – LizardTech, Inc., a leader in software solutions that make it significantly easier to manage, distribute and access digital content such as aerial photography, satellite imagery and scanned color documents, today announced the release of GeoExpress 5.0 with MrSID, the software that streamlines image processing and sets a new standard in functionality and interoperability.

GeoExpress 5.0 with MrSID raises the bar for geospatial imaging software by giving customers the image quality they can count on, industry-standard MrSID and efficient JPEG 2000 image compression and powerful image manipulation tools designed for geospatial professionals who demand the most from their aerial and satellite imagery.

Key enhancements to GeoExpress 5.0 with MrSID include image reprojection that enables users to reproject imagery from one coordinate reference system to a different coordinate reference system. Area of interest encoding is also available which allows users to specify different compression ratios within one image or mosaic to highlight a particular area in rich detail or obscure, a particularly sensitive area while preserving the surrounding area in vivid detail. GeoExpress JPEG 2000 encoding offers pre-defined image profiles (NPJE, EPJE) that ensure compliance with Department of Defense image standards. User-defined JPEG 2000 image profiles can be created to ensure consistent results across a project. GeoExpress also includes, mosaic, crop and flexible multi-band support.

Enhanced mosaic features deliver the ability to mosaic any combination of supported input images into one seamless mosaic and combine a variety of multi-resolution images and supported formats to create a single mosaic.

GeoExpress 5.0 with MrSID is available in three versions. The “GeoExpress Unlimited Standalone” version provides unlimited MrSID and JPEG 2000 encoding as well as all the powerful image manipulation tools. The “GeoExpress Bundled” option gives customers a choice of encoding levels that suit their image encoding needs. And finally, “GeoExpress Tools” offers a complete set of image manipulation tools without image encoding functionality. “GeoExpress Tools” is ideal for those working with existing MrSID or JPEG 2000 imagery.

“After testing the beta version of GeoExpress 5.0, I noticed the substantial amount of image managing tools included, said Russ Martin, President, Ascent GIS, Inc. “It is not just a compression utility any more.”

“MrSID has long been the industry-standard for massive geospatial imagery. Today, MrSID is about more than just image compression-a lot more,” said Karen Morley, Vice President of Global Marketing, LizardTech. “The new tools in GeoExpress will allow our customers to aggregate data from many sources for a less expensive, more comprehensive imagery base that is much more valuable in decision making.”
