Celartem, Inc. and Avision Join Forces in Asia
Document Express with DjVu Now Integrated in Avision’s AVScan
Tokyo, Japan – February 8, 2005 - Celartem Technology, Inc., a leader in creating technology for digital image compression, management, scaling and secure distribution and parent company of LizardTech, Inc., in Seattle, WA, today announced the company’s partnership with Avision. Under the terms of this new partnership agreement, Avision will integrate LizardTech’s DjVu® open format for color scanned images into Avision’s capture software AVScan, the capture application that ships with all Avision scanners. The OEM integration enables DjVu output capabilities for Avision’s AVScan document scanning software delivering scanned document image files up to 1000 times smaller than traditional TIFF files while preserving the visual quality of the original document and an efficient way to archive and share information over networks and the Internet.
LizardTech’s Document Express with DjVu provides lightweight digital replicas of scanned documents that move swiftly across networks using LizardTech’s groundbreaking DjVu document file format, a technology that delivers highly efficient document compression.
In addition, Celartem has developed a server side product that allows Avision network scanners to scan documents directly into a centralized server that will automatically produce DjVu files available for immediate access across a company network. With OCR support for over 100 languages, Document Express with DjVu enables text in scanned documents to be searched using keywords making it easy for employees, customers and partners to find precisely the information they are seeking. Fully functional hyperlinks, URLs, and e-mail can be easily included to enhance both electronic documents and those scanned from paper. Since DjVu documents are extremely lightweight and move rapidly over the Web, the combination of Avision network scanners and DjVu document format will provide the best solution for corporate networks that need distributed scanning capabilities.
With this strategic partnership between the two companies, Avision will sell the company’s network scanners with LizardTech’s DjVu Server to provide an excellent document imaging solution to the document management market. Avision will become Celartem’s distributor for all Document Express with DjVu products in the greater China region, including Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Korea enabling LizardTech to establish a robust presence in the Asia Pacific region.
A leader in software solutions that make it significantly easier to manage, distribute and access digital content such as aerial photography, satellite imagery and scanned color documents, LizardTech was purchased by Celartem in August of 2003. LizardTech’s Document Express with DjVu combines efficient compression technology, automatic document conversion, customizable workflows and an easy to use interface to produce a cost effective document imaging solution that delivers the highest levels of legibility for color documents in a compact file that conserves storage space and bandwidth.
“There is a high demand for document imaging solutions that enable organizations to cost effectively archive and share scanned color documents,” said Yasuo Kano, CEO of Celartem. “With Avision as our distributor I am confident we will be able to jointly provide this world class document imaging solution from LizardTech to a wide range of customers in Asia Pacific.”
“With DjVu technology, Avision’s network scanners and high-speed document scanners shall further present their excellent features on digital document management.” said Charlie Chou, Senior Vice President of Avision. “We believe the partnership is a win-win policy and the brand-new solution will become a leading package in the market and satisfy our customers’ long-felt need.”
