LizardTech’s Express Server: Optimized for ArcIMS 9.0
Seattle, WA – February 11, 2005 - LizardTech, Inc., a leader in software solutions that make it significantly easier to manage, distribute and access digital content such as aerial photography, satellite imagery and scanned color documents announced today at the GeoTec Event in Vancouver, B.C. the release of Express Server ArcIMS 9.0 Integration Toolkit.
This latest release of Express Server is specifically designed to address the needs of ArcIMS 9.0 users and takes advantage of MrSID Generation 3 (MG3) technology. The current version provides a significant performance improvement over previous versions and dramatically decreases the load on users’ ArcIMS services. With the ArcIMS Integration Toolkit, Express Server simplifies image management and dramatically reduces storage requirements by eliminating the need to create image pyramids. The Toolkit also provides a robust set of scaleable tools to facilitate collaboration across the enterprise.
Express Server is a natural compliment to any ArcIMS 9.0 implementation. ArcIMS users can stream large image files via Express Server instead of serving up imagery as another map layer and bogging down IMS services. Express Server provides all the benefits of wavelet-encoded raster imagery along with the power of the ArcIMS tools for vector display and analysis.
Express Server includes a server-side plug-in that installs directly onto the server on which ArcIMS 9.0 software is installed. No additional plug-in is required for client’s browsers or applications when viewing imagery served from Express Server via ArcIMS 9.0.
An ArcIMS 9.0 administrator can now add imagery served from Express Server as an Image Service. Viewing properties, such as visible scale, can also be added. When the client application requests imagery from the ArcIMS Web server, the ArcIMS 9.0 service requests the image from Express Server.
Express Server delivers imagery into ArcIMS with all the image processing overhead occurring on Express Server as opposed to the ArcIMS web server enabling up to 25 times faster viewing of raster imagery in ArcIMS 9.0 implementations. ArcIMS 9.0 then combines the image with other data requested and delivers to the end application. The Express Server component is transparent to the end user.
“This combination of ESRI and LizardTech Web tools is of great value to our mutual customers,” said Karen Morley, VP of Global Marketing, LizardTech. “We have developed this as a direct result of customer requests for an integrated solution.”
