SANZ and LizardTech team to bring MrSID technology into future versions of Earthwhere
Partnership Allows EarthWhere Users to Read and Write in MrSID Format
ENGLEWOOD, Colo.–(BUSINESS WIRE) -February 1, 2005 – SANZ Inc. (OTCBB: SANZ), a leading provider of spatial data provisioning solutions, today announced at the ESRI Federal User’s Conference, the company’s partnering agreement with LizardTech, Inc., a leader in software solutions that make it significantly easier to manage, distribute and access digital content such as aerial photography, satellite imagery and scanned colored documents. The agreement will enable SANZ EarthWhere™ users to read, and more importantly, to write in the MrSID® generation 3 format as soon as this spring.
SANZ has agreed to license the GeoExpress with MrSID SDK (Software Development Kit) and embed the libraries that will allow EarthWhere users to directly encode to the MrSID format.
MrSID (Multiresolution Seamless Image Database) is a powerful wavelet-based image encoder; optimizer, viewer and file format designed specifically for GIS professionals for true portability of massive images. MrSID technology is the most widely accepted geospatial image format that produces dramatically smaller image files without compromising the quality of the original image allowing for more detailed analysis. Geospatial professionals within government agencies rely on LizardTech’s GeoExpress 5.0 with MrSID for crucial decision making such as optimal crop yields and national security when in need of rapid access to massive imagery from anywhere in the world.
SANZ EarthWhere is an application for managing and distributing geospatial imagery through a process called spatial data provisioning. Spatial data provisioning provides custom on-demand spatial datasets from archives of source imagery and allows for the central cataloging of all available geospatial imagery within the client’s data infrastructure, increases the speed of transmission of datasets to users in the field, creates datasets specific to the low-bandwidth user, as well as simplifies and expedites imagery ingest. The ability to read and write to MrSID will allow users to further maximize their geospatial datasets while having one tool for the provisioning and output of imagery.
“EarthWhere inclusion of this format will allow us to provide support to our customers that rely on MrSID,” said Joe Adams, EarthWhere system administrator at the USGS Rocky Mountain Mapping Center. “We will now consistently have one tool that will reduce the number of steps we usually go through to deliver product to a client. Potentially it will cut processing time in half.”
