LizardTech Announces Support for Viewing MrSID and JPEG 2000 Images on the Mac OS X Platform
Apple Macintosh Users Can Now View MrSID® and JPEG 2000 Images
SEATTLE, Wash. – April 26, 2005 - LizardTech, a division of Celartem, Inc., and a leading provider of software solutions that make it significantly easier to manage and distribute digital content such as aerial photography, satellite imagery and scanned color documents, today announced support for viewing MrSID® and JPEG 2000 files on the Mac OS X platform.
With LizardTech’s ExpressView Browser Plug-in for Macintosh users can access MrSID and JPEG 2000 images from Apple Macintosh OS X 10.2 and 10.3. The easy to install plug-in for Mac is free and is easily installed as a plug-in for Apple’s Safari browser.
Key features included in the ExpressView Browser Plug-in for Mac include the ability to view, magnify, print and save geospatial images in MrSID Generation 3 format and JPEG 2000 format. Mac users who are fans of the intuitive graphic user interface and full screen mode performance are now able to drag the image zoom larger and smaller at the click of the mouse. Additionally, features like multiband image viewing support and image data caching, which increases viewing speeds, are also included. A standalone application mode for use without the browser also comes with the free plug-in. Users can save their images as PNG, GIF, JPEG, BMP, and limited-resolution TIFF files.
“With the release of ExpressView 3.4 for the Mac, LizardTech continues to position itself as the technology and performance leader in the image management space,” stated Dan Sarlitto, senior product manager, LizardTech. “In addition, no other product on the market can claim to offer comparable overall functionality or ease-of-use for both industry standard MrSID and JPEG 2000, making GeoExpress and the ExpressView browser plug-ins the tools of choice for the geospatial imaging community.”
MrSID (Multiresolution Seamless Image Database) is a highly compressed wavelet file format designed specifically for geospatial professionals for true portability of massive images. MrSID technology is the most widely accepted geospatial image format that produces dramatically smaller image files without compromising the quality of the original image allowing for more detailed analysis.
