LizardTech Releases GeoExpress 5.0 Software Development Kit (SDK)

GeoExpress SDK Offers Unlimited Encoding Capabilities to Both MrSID® and JPEG 2000

SEATTLE, Wash. – June 14, 2005 - LizardTech, a division of Celartem, Inc., and a leading provider of software solutions that make it significantly easier to manage and distribute digital content such as aerial photography, satellite imagery and scanned color documents, today announced the release of GeoExpress 5.0 SDK. This latest release of the SDK offers unlimited encoding capabilities to both MrSID and JPEG 2000 and exposes functionality contained in the GeoExpress 5.0 standalone product including JPEG 2000 encoding, NPJE/EPJE profiles, support for WKT-based spatial reference system metadata, and area of interest encoding of imagery to MrSID Generation 3 (MG3) as well as JPEG 2000.

With direct access to both JPEG 2000 and MrSID unlimited encoding, users will realize a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) for storage and delivery of massive imagery, as well as have the opportunity to create complimentary GIS imagery products by leveraging functionality previously limited to the GeoExpress standalone product.

“We feel that providing programmatic access to unlimited encoding and associated image management tools is a natural extension of LizardTech’s already robust GeoExpress platform of products,” said Dan Sarlitto, LizardTech’s senior product manager for Geospatial products. Sarlitto added, “There are thousands of LizardTech customers who have benefited from our innovation in efficient wavelet-based image compression over the years, now there will be thousands more in the developer community who can benefit from GeoExpress 5.0 SDK.”

GeoExpress SDK is the industry’s only encoding solution that offers the benefits of both MrSID technology and ISO standard JPEG 2000 without any compromise in the quality of imagery and without requiring developers to change their applications, production processes or hardware configurations. Furthermore, LizardTech’s SDK and associated plug-in viewers are available in a variety of options and can be downloaded directly from LizardTech’s Web site here.
