LizardTech Releases MrSID Generation 4 Decode SDK
Developers can add support for MG4 files created with LizardTech LiDAR Compressor
SEATTLE, Wash. – July 23, 2009 - LizardTech, a division of Celartem, Inc. and a leading provider of software solutions for managing and distributing digital content, announced the release of the MrSID Generation 4 Decode SDK (MG4 DSDK) to compliment the release of LizardTech LiDAR Compressor. This SDK leverages the new and improved version of the MrSID format that enables users to view and access their LiDAR data much faster than traditional uncompressed formats would have allowed.
Trusted as a raster format by geospatial professionals since 1992 and supported in virtually all GIS applications, MrSID is the highest quality file format with the most advanced compression technology available. A free download of the MrSID Generation 4 Decode SDK is available athttp://developer.lizardtech.com, and enables application developers to add support for viewing and decoding LiDAR datasets compressed to MrSID.
“This new SDK gives third-party developers the ability to add support for our updated MrSID file format to their GIS applications,” said Jon Skiffington, director of marketing at LizardTech. “It is still the MrSID format users have known for years, but we’ve listened to our customers’ requests and have added support for compressing LiDAR data. We’re excited to offer this SDK to our partners, and are looking forward to the release of their products that support MG4.”
Introduced last week, LizardTech LiDAR Compressor enables users to turn giant point cloud data into efficient MrSID files that retain 100 percent of the raw data at just 25 percent of the file size. Unlike raw LAS or ASCII data, LiDAR files compressed to MrSID are easily managed resources from which derivatives can be extracted over and over again. LiDAR files can be viewed in LizardTech’s free GeoViewer 4.0 available for download here.
