LizardTales Newsletter – November 2004

Letter from LizardTech CEO, Carlos Domingo

Carlos Domingo CEOHello once again. Three months ago we resumed our quarterly LizardTales newsletter to begin building a solid bridge of communication between LizardTech and our customers and partners. I welcome you to the Q2 2004 issue of LizardTales where we will continue delivering valuable and timely information about new products and recent activities happening at LizardTech.

This quarter, we have started to unveil our JPEG2000 strategy for GeoExpress. For the past 10 years, LizardTech has been the leader for wavelet compression technology in the geospatial market with our MrSID technology now the de-facto standard compressed image format within the geospatial industry. Therefore it was a natural move for LizardTech to begin incorporating the emerging ISO standard JPEG2000 into our products. The first step has been the release of a new SDK for compressing and distributing geospatial imagery that supports both MrSID and JPEG2000. Next, LizardTech announced a partnership with Galdos Systems, Inc. to significantly extend the capabilities of JPEG2000 by jointly developing an ISO standard for geospatial metadata in GML through the Open GIS Consortium (OGC) consensus process.

On the document imaging side, LizardTech had a wildly successful presence at the 2004 AIIM Conference and Exposition in New York City where we had the chance to present our new strategy of focus on the color scanning market with our DjVu technology where we have started to see a lot of traction recently.

The next few months we are going to continue with the renewed activities and initiatives that we began following the acquisition of LizardTech by Celartem Technology, So, please stay tuned for more announcements and interesting news.

Regards,

Carlos Domingo Signature

Upgrade To GeoExpress 4.1 With MrSID

GeoExpress

Now is the perfect time to upgrade an older version of GeoExpress with MrSID. In addition to support for the industry-standard MrSID, GeoExpress 4.1 includes easy to use image profiles that simplify the creation of JPEG 2000 imagery in U. S. Department of Defense standards such as NPJE and EPJE formats.

With GeoExpress 4.1 becoming the first end user commercial JPEG 2000 application geared specifically towards large geospatial imaging implementations, as part of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Interoperability Demonstration, LizardTech also demonstrated how easily the company’s geospatial products work with common standards like WMS to connect data and technologies through web services for the delivery of MrSID and JPEG 2000 imagery across the hall or around the world.

Introducing Express Server 5.0

Express Server

This quarter, LizardTech unveiled Express Server 5.0, the cost-effective solution for delivering high-resolution images and documents via the Internet. In addition to the ArcIMS Integration Toolkit we introduced with Express Server version 4.6, version 5.0 delivers interoperability in three key areas.

    • OpenGIS® Web Mapping Service (WMS) publishing. Easily integrate Express Server image repositories with WMS-compliant geospatial data stores anywhere in the world.
    • Interoperability.Integrate Express Server with diverse architectures such as ESRI ArcIMS, Intergraph, MapInfo, Smallworld, and EMC Centera while leveraging the best raster delivery technology in the world.
    • Broad Industry Support.Use Express Server to rapidly distribute an array of common image formats. Express Server supports industry-standard file formats and open standards such as TIFF, JPEG and BMP, as well as the MrSID and DjVu formats and now JPEG 2000.

And, with the ArcIMS Integration Toolkit you can collaborate across the organization, accelerate image delivery via ArcIMS, manage image repositories and dramatically reduce disc space requirements. The ArcIMS Integration Toolkit allows you to use your Express Server to stream raster images freeing, your ArcIMS server to deliver other data for GIS analysis.
