FROM MANAGEMENT
Happy New Year from LizardTech! We hope you had a joyful holiday season, and wish you a peaceful and prosperous 2012.
As we celebrate the beginning of a new year, it’s great time to reflect on 2011. Here at LizardTech, 2011 marked the turning point for the advancement of the MrSID Generation 4 (MG4) format. Although MG4 was launched the year prior, 2011 saw the first wave of partner products with support for MG4 raster imagery, as well as the addition of MG4 as a supported format in our Express Sever product.
Further, with the release of GeoExpress 8.5 at the end of the year, we now support per-band compression ratios in MrSID files, so you can choose any mix of compression ratios for any combination of bands. Now you can keep your file sizes low while retaining the data you need, even in multispectral datasets.
We’ve got lots of exciting things coming up in 2012, so keep visiting us and stay tuned!

GEOSPATIAL
Now that MG4 is out the door and the number of applications that support it is starting to grow, we want to focus on some other areas. First up is viewing MrSID files (and other images) on mobile devices. This month we’re launching a version of our free GeoViewer application for the Apple iPad. It’ll be available to download on the iTunes Store soon. Next we’ll be looking at other mobile devices to support.
We’re also hard at work on the new version of our Express Server product. While last year’s release concentrated on MG4 support, this year’s efforts will be aimed at improving the experience you, the user, have in deploying your imagery. You probably already know that Express Server is the fastest way to serve MrSID imagery, but with the next version it’ll also be the easiest server on the market to use as well.
Of course, even though the last release of GeoExpress was barely a couple of months ago, we’re already looking at what to add to the next version. Be sure to email us at info@lizardtech.com, post on our Facebook wall at http://www.facebook.com/LizardTech or see us in person at the many trade shows we attend to tell us what you’d like to see next.
