LizardTales Newsletter – September 2012
FROM MANAGEMENT

As fall arrives, it’s a busy time of the year for LizardTech. The biggest news for us is the recently launched Express Server 8, which you can read more about below. In addition to that, however, you may have already seen us at events in August and September, such as WyGeo in Wyoming, ISPRS in Melbourne, Esri SWUC and GIS in the Rockies in Denver, and a variety of other places. Check below for where we’ll be in the coming months.
Of course, when you meet with us be sure to tell us how you’re using our products and what you’d like to see in the future. If you can’t tell us in person, you can always send us an email at info@lizardtech.com, or you can take our annual survey, which will be coming out in the next few weeks. As always, we value your feedback.
Oh, and in less business related news, LizardTech was lucky enough to have a company outing at the Seattle Mariners game versus the Tampa Bay Rays on August 15. There, we were lucky enough to witness the 23rd perfect game in major league history. Way to go, Félix!

GEOSPATIAL
Express Server 8 launched on September 17th, and we’re very excited to tell you about it. Express Server is already known for being the fastest way to serve MrSID and JPEG 2000 imagery to any device over any connection. You can build web applications with it, integrate with other applications and servers via WMS, or let it sit standalone for serving geospatial imagery.
With this new release, we’ve added a number of new features. We’re most proud of the new web administration console, which makes it simple to choose the imagery you want to deploy and how. In just a few clicks and a couple of minutes, your MrSID imagery can be on the web. In addition to support for MrSID, JPEG 2000, and NITF, this release also includes support for serving Geospatial PDFs, so you can serve those maps right alongside the rest of your imagery.
For this release, we’ve put a free trial version on our website. Just go to http://www.lizardtech.com/downloads/category/#latest and download it for yourself. You can use the full functionality of Express Server for 30 days, and see how your organization can benefit by rapidly serving out geospatial imagery.

GeoExpress 8.5: before you encode, check that GeoExpress recognizes and displays the coordinate reference system (CRS) of the image as well as the proper coordinates. If not, you can right click on the image and choose “Edit metadata” to assign a CRS and coordinates.
