A060801 - Composite or updated mosaic won’t open in some applications

Products:

GeoExpress

Summary:

MrSID composite or updated mosaic does not open in some applications.

Cause:

This issue is rarely seen but results from the advanced functionality in composite mosaics. While most geospatial applications read both flat and composite MrSID mosaics, there may still be some that will not read composite MrSID images.

Solution:

It is unlikely that you will encounter this issue, but if you do you can work around it by flattening your composite mosaic.

To flatten a composite mosaic in the GUI:

  1. Add the image to the Optimize job list and make sure it is selected.
  2. Choose Encode Options from the Options menu (or click More Optimize Options in the Properties tab at right), then select the Output tab.
  3. Select the Create Flattened Mosaic checkbox, then click the Optimize Selected Images button below the job list.

To flatten a composite mosaic on the command line:

Use the -flatten switch.

Notes
You can tell whether or not a MrSID image is a composite by adding it to the Optimize job list and looking at the File Type value on the Properties tab at the right.
