Express Server - FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

H090501 - Is there a way to make Express Server perform even faster for WMS requests?

Yes. In Express Server versions 6.0 and later you can force JPEG output for faster WMS service. You do this by caching and editing the WMS GetCapabilities document.

  1. Visit the following link after changing “localhost” to the name of your server:

    http://localhost/lizardtech/iserv/ows?request=GetCapabilities.

  2. Save the GetCapabilities response as a text file, name the file “wms.capabilities.xml” and put it in the folder:

    <Express Server root installation directory>/ImageServer/var.

  3. Edit the GetMap element of the wms.capabilities.xml document to remove all supported formats except for JPEG.
    This:

    <GetMap>
     <Format>image/jp2;subtype="gmljp2"</Format>
     <Format>image/bmp</Format>
     <Format>image/jpeg</Format>
     <Format>image/tiff</Format>
     <Format>image/gif</Format>
     <Format>image/png</Format>

    becomes this:

    <GetMap>
     <Format>image/jpeg</Format>
  4. Restart Express Server.

Any changes you make such as adding new catalogs will require that you update the cached capabilities document.
