A060604 - Mosaicking color and grayscale images together

Summary:

You would like to mosaic color (3-band) and grayscale (1-band) images, but in adding tiles for mosaicking you receive the error “impedance mismatch – colorspace [50017]“

Cause:

All images in a mosaic must have the same number of bands.

Solution:

Either convert your 3-band images to 1-band images or convert your 1-band images to 3-band images.

To convert a 3-band (RGB) image to a 1-band (grayscale) image:

  1. Select Add image to encode from the Images menu (from the Project menu in versions prior to 7.0) and choose an image to add.
  2. Click More Encode Options. The Encode Options dialog appears.
  3. Select the Bands & Compression tab (the Color Space tab in versions prior to 8.5).
  4. Select Grayscale for the output color space, then click OK.
  5. Make sure the image is selected in the Job list and click Encode Selected Images.

To convert a 1-band image to a 3-band image:

  1. Select Add color composite image to encode from the Images menu (from the Project menu in versions prior to 7.0). The Add Color Composite Image dialog appears.
  2. Select the Red band and click Edit File Name. The Edit File Name (Red) dialog appears.
  3. Locate and select your 1-band file, then click OK.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the Green and Blue bands, using the same 1-band file.
  5. Click OK to exit dialogs.
  6. Make sure the image is selected in the Job list and click Encode selected images.

Once all of your images have the same number of bands, you may add them as tiles to the Job list for a single mosaic.
