A091101 - SDK tools and applications don’t open MrSID file created from signed-integer GeoTIFF
Products:
GeoExpress Decode SDK 7.0 and any application built from it.Summary:
Certain MrSID files created from GeoTIFFs will not open and result in the an error:
..lti_geoTIFFMetadata.cpp:676
Clicking “Abort” or “Retry” crashes the application. If you click “Ignore” the image opens and displays properly.
Cause:
The file contains a signed integer GeoTIFF metadata tag, which is disallowed by the GeoTIFF specification. (Verify this by opening the image in GeoExpress 7.0.2 or earlier, or any previous version of the SDK, and searching the metadata for the tag “Type: SINT16[1]“.) In the most recent version of the SDK, LizardTech specifically disallowed signed-integer GeoTIFFs in order to more tightly align the product with the specification.
Solution:
If you can, use applications created with an earlier version of the SDK to open this file.
IMPORTANT
If you see this error, please contact LizardTech Support immediately at http://www.lizardtech.com/support and tell us where you got the image file. It is in the best interest of the geospatial community that the source of signed-integer GeoTIFFs be tracked down and their production discontinued.
