A060401 - Speckled effect in white areas

Products:

GeoExpress

Summary:

A “speckled” effect appears in white areas of indexed color images.

Cause:

When GeoExpress converts indexed color images to 24-bit for encoding, it actually adds color to the image. This process can create a speckled effect in white areas of the image. This effect is most noticeable in computer-generated, indexed color images.

Solution:

Some compensation for this effect can be achieved through adjustment of the Weight and G-Weight settings, which are located in the Options dialog box on the Advanced tab.

To avoid this speckled effect, scan the source images at 24-bit RGB, or turn off the Image Enhancement option (MG2 format only).

Another solution is to use lossless encoding, which will preserve all input pixel color values.
