A080104 - Vector overlay files used in GeoExpress 6 may not be readable

Products:

GeoExpress 7 and later

Summary:

GML-formatted vector overlay files used in GeoExpress 6 may not be readable by later versions of GeoExpress.

Cause:

The first time GeoExpress handles a GML-formatted vector overlay file, it creates a temporary file with a “.gfs” extension and then uses that file for all further processing. A GFS file is saved in the same directory as its vector overlay file in case that overlay is selected for use again. A change that took place between versions 6 and 7 of GeoExpress in the way its third-party library reads and parses GML-formatted vector overlay files means that any GFS files generated by GeoExpress 6 will fail to be recognized by later versions. As long as the GFS file created in GeoExpress 6 is still present in the directory, selecting the corresponding vector overlay file will result in failure.

Solution:

Delete any GFS files that were created by GeoExpress 6, since new ones will be generated again the next time GeoExpress opens the corresponding vector overlay files.

Status:

The solution above is final. The change in format of the third-party library means that GeoExpress 6 users will continue to be able to generate GFS files unreadable by later versions.
