Express Server Download and Installation Instructions


Thank you for downloading Express Server  9.5!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Express Server 9.5 requires a new license code issued from LizardTech in order to function.  You must have a current support agreement with LizardTech in order to receive a new license code.

Download the Installation File

Express Server for Windows - This exe file is 629 MB

Express Server for Linux - This tar file is 527 MB

Express Server ISO - This disc image includes installation materials for both Linux and Windows versions of Express Server, GeoViewer, and a GeoExpress trial. (This ISO file must be burned to a DVD before running and the file is 1.6 GB)

 

Instructions for new users:

  1. Download the installer from the list above.
    • If you chose the zip option you must extract the files before installation. Right-click the zipped folder and choose "Extract All" to extract the folder.
    • If you chose the ISO option you must either burn the ISO file to a DVD or use an ISO reader to mount the file to a virtual drive before launching the installer.
  2. Run the Express Server installer.
    • On Windows, double-click either the Setup.exe or AutoRun.exe file
    • On Linux, open a terminal and run the install.sh shell script
  3. The installation wizard guides you through the installation process. If any dependencies such as Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable Package (x64) or Java SE Runtime Environment are missing the installer will automatically install those first.
  4. If IIS is not already installed the installer will ask to install it for you.  IIS is required to run Express Server.
  5. Choose an installation directory.  On Windows, the default installation directory is C:\Program Files\LizardTech\Express Server. On Linux, the default installation directory is /opt/LizardTech.
  6. Choose the setup type.
  7. Choose the website where you would like to install Express Server.  Most users choose the Default Web Site.
  8. Choose ports for HTTPS and agent communication, or leave them as the default.
  9. Make a note of the user name and password provided by the installer.
  10. Navigate to the following URL to access the Express Server Manager: http://localhost:8080/ExpressServerAdmin/
  11. LizardTech provides a 30-day trial license which allows Express Server to function until a full license is obtained. Refer to the How do I get a new Express Server license code? knowledge base article for instructions on how to request a new license.

 

Instructions for Express Server 9.x upgrades:

Note: The Express Server installer will upgrade your current installation - it is no longer required to uninstall the previous version of Express Server 9.x first.

  1. If you want to get a new license code before upgrading, refer to the Can I get a new Express Server 9.5 license code before upgrading? knowledge base article.  Do not apply the new license until after the upgrade is complete.
  2. Download the installer from the list above.
  3. If you chose the zip option you must extract the files before installation. Right-click the zipped folder and choose "Extract All" to extract the folder.
  4. If you chose the ISO option you must either burn the ISO file to a DVD or use an ISO reader to mount the file to a virtual drive before launching the installer.
  5. Run the Express Server installer.
  6. On Windows, double-click either the Setup.exe or AutoRun.exe file
  7. On Linux, open a terminal and run the install.sh shell script
  8. The installation wizard guides you through the installation process. If any dependencies such as Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable Package (x64) or Java SE Runtime Environment need to be updated the installer will automatically install those updated versions first.
  9. Select the website where you would like to use Express Server.  Most users choose the Default Web Site.
  10. When completed click “Finish”. Express Server is now updated.
  11. Your old license code is no longer valid.  LizardTech provides a 30-day trial license which allows Express Server to continue working until a new full license is obtained.  Refer to the How do I get a new Express Server license code? knowledge base article for instructions on how to request a new license.

 

Instructions for Express Server 8.x upgrades:

Note: If you have custom projection systems defined, create a backup of the following file before you run the installer:

<Installation Directory>/ImageServer/etc/gdal/esri_extra.wkt

  1. If you want to get a new license code before upgrading, refer to the Can I get a new Express Server 9.5 license code before upgrading? knowledge base article.  Do not apply the new license until after the upgrade is complete.
  2. Uninstall Express Server using the control panel.
  3. Download the installer from the list above.
    • If you chose the zip option you must extract the files before installation. Right-click the zipped folder and choose "Extract All" to extract the folder.
    • If you chose the ISO option you must either burn the ISO file to a DVD or use an ISO reader to mount the file to a virtual drive before launching the installer.
  4. Run the Express Server installer.
    • On Windows, double-click either the Setup.exe or AutoRun.exe file
    • On Linux, open a terminal and run the install.sh shell script
  5. The installation wizard guides you through the installation process. If any dependencies such as Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable Package (x64) or Java SE Runtime Environment are missing the installer will automatically install those first.
  6. Choose an installation directory. It does not need to be the same directory as the previous version. On Windows, the default installation directory is C:\Program Files\LizardTech\Express Server. On Linux, the default installation directory is /opt/LizardTech.
  7. Choose the setup type.
  8. Choose the website where you would like to install Express Server.  Most users choose the Default Web Site.
  9. Choose ports for HTTPS and agent communication, or leave them as the default.  If you had custom ports set up on the previous version of Express Server make sure these ports match the previous settings.
  10. Make a note of the user name and password provided by the installer - it will be new.
  11. To retrieve your old catalogs browse to the Status page and click the "Upgrade from Express Server 8" button at the bottom.
    • Browse to the old installation directory and click Upgrade.  Do not check the "Import Express Server 8 license" checkbox.
    • Every catalog will need to re-index. This could take a long time depending on the number and size of catalogs.
  12. Your old license code is no longer valid.  LizardTech provides a 30-day trial license which allows Express Server to continue working until a new full license is obtained.  Refer to the How do I get a new Express Server license code? knowledge base article for instructions on how to request a new license.

 

Instructions for Express Server 7.x and older upgrades:

  • Not supported - refer to new installation procedures.
