Tools and Utilities

MrSID tools and utilities help GIS professionals open, view, and work with MrSID imagery directly within their GIS software. These tools provide compatibility between the MrSID format and popular GIS applications, allowing users to display high-resolution aerial imagery, satellite imagery, orthophotos, and other raster datasets without converting them to another format. Depending on the software and available plugin or extension, users can access georeferencing information, navigate large imagery datasets efficiently, and integrate MrSID files into existing mapping and analysis workflows. This makes MrSID tools and utilities particularly useful for organizations that need to work with large compressed imagery collections while maintaining efficient performance and minimizing storage requirements.

MrSID Plugin for QGIS on macOS

Version 1.0.5

Jun 29, 2026

For many GIS professionals, QGIS is a preferred desktop platform for working with raster and vector datasets. However, macOS users may encounter limitations when working with MrSID® (.sid) imagery. Although QGIS supports MrSID through its underlying GDAL raster I/O framework, the ability to read .sid files depends on whether the installed GDAL build includes the proprietary MrSID driver.

Because standard macOS QGIS installations often ship without this proprietary driver, MrSID imagery may not be supported out of the box. Users therefore need a GDAL/QGIS installation with the appropriate MrSID support to open and process .sid datasets directly.

MrSID Plugin for AutoCAD 2027

Beta
Aug 15, 2026

LizardTech is excited to announce the launch of the MrSID Plugin for AutoCAD 2027 BETA, restoring direct access to high-performance MrSID® geospatial imagery within the latest AutoCAD environment. The release addresses an important workflow change in AutoCAD 2027, where native MrSID support has been removed, requiring users to otherwise convert .sid imagery into alternative raster formats. (Autodesk Help) The new plugin is designed to enable CAD, surveying, engineering, and GIS professionals to continue working with their existing MrSID aerial, satellite, and mapping imagery directly in AutoCAD 2027—helping preserve established geospatial workflows while avoiding unnecessary raster conversion and associated storage and processing overhead.

Note: This is a beta version released for testing and evaluation purposes. The final, production-ready version will be available through the Autodesk App Store.
